Joe Swale

Cyclist

Biography

Sport has always been a huge part of my life. Through my school years I was heavily into rugby and rowing, eventually getting into cycling in High School. I got into cycling by watching the Tour de France with my old man and it has since been the ultimate goal of mine to be competitive in the likes of the 3 Grand tours and cycling monuments/Classics. Although, to be a Pro rider in itself is a huge achievement, I’m fortunate enough to have the best chance to fulfil it being a part of ESP.

My cycling idol is Marco Pantani. Although I do not idolise him in all areas of his life, his determination for the sport was incredible. Pantani didn’t have any doubts whilst racing and was never afraid to attack, even 100km from the finish.

I’ve got a few races in NZ before I leave for Europe in June. Can’t wait to get a few months to train and race, mostly in France and Italy, to see what the road cycling scene in Europe is all about. Hopefully getting a few results before I come back to smash it out in my 3rd Tour of Southland.
